This time has been full of many breakthroughs, all time bests and even one awful low (broken hand during mud run). That said, however, despite what would’ve otherwise prevented others from continuing to thrive and the person training them baffled on what to do to thrive she has proven over the last 6 weeks with the cast that no one and nothing will stand in her way by still managing to take off more than med experts say is “great weight loss” per month. Obviously it isn’t amazing based on my expectations but that’s truly all you can hope for in that situation and for the clothing sizes to get smaller and bodyfat to continue to drop off. Krista is truly thriving.

What’s to stress?!? I am so programmed that it has been easier than I thought it would be. I worked out twice this week, but have kept very active the other days - lots of walking. My food has been spot on and I feel really good about my choices that I made this week. I’ve stayed within my plan and calorie limits even though we’ve been eating out quite a bit. All the restaurants have been very accommodating to my food requests, which made it even easier. I still dread my dinners as they are my least favorite meals (no carbs). But there is a reason for it and it’s made me successful thus far.

This weeks quote: “You can only motivate those who want to be motivated.” Many people want to lose weight, but some just aren’t ready to put in the work or have the drive, which it takes a lot of. The right food plan and exercise are the keys to being succesful. You cant have one without the other. I am very motivated and once this cast is off I’ll be in beast mode once again with the will to pull those big numbers and reach my goal.

Get ready Dante!

May Update - Drum roll please…..

Its been awhile since I’ve updated my blog and today is a perfect day to do it as I reached yet another milestone. I am currently down 70.1 lbs in 5 months. I currently weigh 232 lbs which is the lowest I have been in well over a decade. I also wanted to hit 70lbs before I left for vacation and I did it! :)

This week has been tough for me, not only am I still in my cast (scheduled to get it off on June 4th) but Dante (PT) is on vacation this week and it was up to me to motivate myself to exercise. I failed terribly.

Motivating myself to go in the garage and use the treadmill or even going outside to walk or run is still a struggle for me. I am 100% on the eating plan and that is really what is saving me. I really wish I could be like others and want to work out. Dante tells me that will come in time, but it really does worry me. Once I have reached my final goal and I won’t have Dante motivating me, what will happen? I don’t not want to go back to being in 300’s again. You would think just that thought would motivate me, but it doesn’t. Exercise is and I think will always be a challenge for me.

I think next week might be a better week as I will be on vacation and I will have my best friend with me, who is also trying to lose weight. Hopefully we will motivate each other. Maybe a weightless challenge is in need?? I am also excited because Dante is meeting up with me on his way back to Sac to train me on the beach. I am really looking forward to that and seeing him.

On most days we will be out doing activities, so staying on my food plan might be a little challenging. I plan to bring my portable cooler and pack as much of my own food as possible. I don’t want to mess up on all the hard work I’ve done up until this point.

Vacation is always a time when you don’t want to be on a diet, you just want to relax and enjoy yourself. I will blog during my vacation and share what I do and if i succeed or fail. I think by using my blog to keep me in line will help me immensely.

April is the Month of Accomplishments.

April has been a great month for me despite breaking my hand.

1) I have lost 62.1lbs total

2) i finished the Mud Run with a broken hand and won Dante’s Bet.

3) I won the April Weightloss Challenge by .2 lbs against 3 tough competitors.

I have lots to smile about this month.

Today I get to celebrate with the Dirty Birds at a BBQ at my parents house. :)

Milestone: 61lbs in 4 Months!

I woke up this morning knowing I had to weigh-in and was preparing myself mentally for negative results as my hand injury has set me back.

I stepped on the scale and I was in complete shock that I was down 61lbs.

I needed some good news and that put a large smile on my face. I also got the results back from my blood test and doctors for my annual check-up. All my numbers were normal and my blood pressure is normal too. Before I started this journey my numbers were all borderline and I fell into the pre-hypertension category. In just 4 short months I have not only lost weight, but I am adding years to my life.

With my broken hand, Dante has to adjust my work outs as well as my food plan. The next 4 weeks are going to be challenging.

Painful Victory…Mud Run Recap

On Saturday, April 21st after giving up my Saturdays for the last several weeks the big day finally arrived - Mud Run. I have to admit that I was really nervous, but once I met up with my team I felt a lot better. My adrenaline was pumping that morning.

The race kicked off with a nice run up a hill and then our first obstacle a mud pit that we had to crawl through. I was fully prepared for this race and the challenges ahead of me. Dante truly over prepared us for the run, because it was so much easier. I made sure I kept a pace between running/walking between each obstacle as each one took a lot of energy to accomplish. When I reached the 3, 4ft wall climbs I just went for it and got over all of them which seemed like seconds. My teammate said I looked like a kangaroo. I was so proud of myself and at that point wished that Dante could have been there to see it.

I got through to the halfway point, which was a long mud pit and there were several people trying to walk through it at the same time. It finished with a Mud Wall. They had some guys positioned at the top that were assisting people. When it was my turn I gave the guy my right hand and put my left hand at the top of the wall where he was standing. The mud made it very slippery and I couldn’t get my feet in a position to push me up and I ended up slipping and heard a loud snap in my left hand. The guy was able to pull me out and I kept going. I didn’t have a clue as to what I did to my hand. I thought I may have dislocated my finger, broke it or sprained it. It was very sore, but the pain was minimal, likely to all the adrenaline pumping. I passed the monkey bar obstacle as I knew my hand was done. I ran and just held it close to me. I arrived to the next obstacle and asked a volunteer where the closest medic was and he pointed to where he was. I looked at the medic and then at the finish line. I decided that finishing was more important. I got creative over the next few obstacles do everything without the use of my hand. Thinking back it just makes me laugh. Eventually my team mate, Angel caught up with me and I told her what happened. She stayed by me through the rest of the race. The hardest part was getting over the last 4 mud hills, pits and tube crawl. Sucking up the pain and doing everything I could to compensate for the loss of my hand. I finished the race in 1 hour and 6 minutes.

After the race I went and saw the medic and he cut me out of gloves and gave me an ice pack and said get to the ER right away. We ended up at the Kaiser ER in Manteca. The x-rays proved that I broke my hand, 4th Metacarpal. All of the nurses and doctors asked how it happened as I was covered in mud. I explained that I just finished the mud run. They said “you finished the mud run, with a broken hand?” They were all very surprised. They put my in a splint and sent me on my way.

On Monday, I finally got an appointment with an Ortho and he too was just as shocked that I finished the race. He said I didn’t need surgery (big sigh of relief) just a cast for 4 weeks. This is a huge set back for me as my life has been turned upside down without the use of my left hand. I have to rely on other people to help me with almost everything. Work has become challenging too.

Im glad that I finished the race despite my injury. Dante also made a side bet with me. I had to beat one of my team members across the finish line. Which I won, with a broken hand! Very happy about that too!

Sleepless in Elk Grove

Since I did the wall climb and 5k Run a couple of weeks ago I have felt exhausted and having difficulty giving 100% during me workouts. It has been quite frustrating because I have been following this regimen for the last 4 months without any problems. I’ve also had difficulty in getting a good nights rest, which I know contributed to my exhaustion as well.

I decided to take last weekend off and just rest, no cardio, no mud run training, just rest. On Monday I did feel much more awake and full of energy. Unfortunately, that evening I didn’t get any sleep and today I am trying to write this blog post, but my head is cloudy.

I am currently down to 57.7 lbs, Almost 60lbs lost in 4 months. Its a great accomplishment, but I just wish I had the energy to celebrate. I made a doctors appointment to get a check up since its been quite a few years since I’ve had one.

I need my energy back, especially this weekend as its the Official Survivor Mud Run Race in Lathrop.

Wish me luck!

Tuna on Rice Cakes - Yummy!

Dante has set a challenge to 4 of his clients, which included me. Angel Woldhagen, Jes Jackson, Toni Ramirez and myself will be going head to head to lose the most weight in 30 days.

We will have team workouts and weigh in’s on Saturday mornings before Mud Run Training.

We are also required to send screen shots of our cardio workouts to Dante for even more accountability.

I am a very competitive person my nature and I love challenges. My head is in the game and in the famous words of Ricky Bobby “If you’re not First, You’re Last”.

Its been awhile since I updated my blog with some news about my journey, so here goes…

So much has happened in a few short weeks. I am just a few pounds from reaching a big milestone - 50Lbs (3 Months). I have also lost another 4 inches off my waist since my last weigh in. I got rid of 6 bags of clothes that I no longer fit in anymore and I am about to run in my first 5K in just a couple of weeks since I started my journey.

Dante recently changed up my food plan as I was beginning to plateau. Its been an interesting change as its a rotating food plan. I have a total of 3 meal plans that I rotate throughout the week. It is all based on carbs (Low, Moderate and High). I have to admit I love the high carb days! I’ve slowly gotten used to the days and what to expect as far as my meal choices. Low days are tough especially on heavy work out days, but I’ve seen great results thus far with the meal plan change. You’ve gotta keep the body constantly confused if you want to see the results.

Last Saturdays Mud Run Training had a new location and it included…..Mud. It was not the hardest workout we’ve done, but defiantly the dirtiest. By the end of the day I was covered from the neck down in cold wet mud. Just when I had all my bruises healed, this training brought them all back again, mostly from grappling and doing army crawls in the mud. I will admit we did have a little fun and I made sure to thank Dante by giving him a big hug when we were done. :o)

This morning I went out for a run with my mom to try the 5k course and see where my mind and body were at fitness wise. We both ran the entire 5k and surprisingly I was not tired or even out of breath when were done, I felt really good. I was very excited about this accomplishment and the hard work I’ve put into my journey thus far. Hopefully I will be just as successful on race day, maybe even speed up my pace time.

My new favorite snack: Plain Chobani with Cinnamon and Apple...

My new favorite snack: Plain Chobani with Cinnamon and Apple Slices.

“MURPH” - The Sequel

Todays session we revisited the Murph Workout that I did in the beginning of February. This time around I shaved 13 minutes off my time. Not bad for a grueling challenge.

The workout consists of the following:

1 mile Run
100 Pull Ups
200 Push Ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run

All to be completed within an hour.

March 9: 1 hour 2 minutes
February 3: 1 hour 15 minutes
